You will want to try sambusa, which is a fried pastry stuffed with meat, potatoes or pumpkin, lagman, which is hand-pulled noodles served in savory broth with beef and vegetables, shashlik, which consists of marinated grilled meat skewers, and chakka, which is thick creamy yogurt. These hearty foods are common in Tajik cuisine, and represent all that is warm and comforting about it.

If you are visiting Dushanbe, these places are a must-see.The Green Bazaar is a high-energy experience and a great place to find spices, fruits, bread and local crafts. Mehrgon Market is another organized and clean place to shop with options for fabric, clothing and household items. The Tsum Department Store in city center has a more conventional shopping experience for souvenirs such as carpets, ceramics and jewelry. Dushanbe Mall and Sadbarg Trade Centre offer a modern shopping experience with chains and cafes in a bright open environment.
